The 3D-4CH Online Competence Centre in 3D has officially launched, marking an important milestone for Europe’s digital cultural heritage ecosystem. Co-funded by the European Union, the platform offers cultural heritage professionals a collaborative and accessible digital environment for working with 3D digitisation, artificial intelligence (AI), and extended reality (XR) technologies.
The Online Competence Centre is designed as a living platform that will continue to grow through community engagement and collaboration. Heritage professionals are encouraged to contribute knowledge, explore and test digital tools, and actively participate in shaping the platform’s future development.
A collaborative European platform
Developed by a pan-European consortium of museums, universities, and technology partners, the 3D-4CH Online Competence Centre responds to real-world needs across the cultural heritage sector. It supports practical workflows in research, education, conservation, and tourism, helping institutions and professionals adopt and scale 3D technologies more effectively.
The platform brings together:
- Training opportunities, including courses and certifications
- A curated Knowledge Base with standards, guidelines, and best practices
- A Tools Library featuring AI-driven 3D reconstruction solutions, XR technologies, and 3D viewers
Accessibility is embedded in the platform from the outset, with design aligned to WCAG 2.1 standards. Intuitive navigation allows both beginners and advanced practitioners to quickly find relevant tools, resources, and learning materials.
Join the growing 3D cultural heritage community
With the launch of the Online Competence Centre, 3D-4CH invites cultural heritage professionals across Europe and beyond to explore the platform, share expertise, and join a growing community working towards a more innovative, inclusive, and sustainable future for digital cultural heritage.
