The DGTRAN project team recently traveled to Dublin for a significant meeting with CARARE (Cooperation and Network for Archaeology and Heritage) and Discovery Programme networks. The goal of this meeting was to learn from these established networks and to strengthen future cooperation, including within the Creative Europe Programme opportunities.

Representatives from Greece (Dimitra Dalamagka), Lithuania (Simonas Teskevicius), Poland (Oksana Voytyuk, Beata Goworko), and Ukraine (Anna Danylchuk, Marta Sydoruk) gathered to exchange knowledge and experiences. CARARE, represented by Kate Fernie, specializes in advancing digital cultural heritage. The Discovery Programme, represented by Anthony Corns, focuses on innovative archaeological research and documentation.

The meeting started with introductions and a comprehensive overview of each network’s contributions to digital heritage and archaeology. CARARE’s efforts in connecting heritage collections across Europe were particularly highlighted, showcasing how digital archives and 3D models can enhance cultural heritage accessibility and preservation.

The Discovery Programme presented their work in digital documentation and archaeological research, emphasizing their multidisciplinary approach. Their projects, such as CHERISH, demonstrate how technology can be used to monitor and preserve cultural sites impacted by climate change.

The discussions covered various topics, including best practices in digital archiving, the integration of 3D and AR technologies, and strategies for effective cross-border collaboration. The partners explored potential areas for cooperation, aiming to leverage each network’s strengths to further the goals of the “Digital Transformation for Cultural Heritage Capacity Building” project.

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to continue the dialogue and collaborate on future initiatives. The knowledge gained from CARARE and the Discovery Programme will be invaluable in enhancing the project’s impact, ensuring that the digital transformation of cultural heritage is both innovative and sustainable.
